You mean that it did not compile because VC++ 6.0 correctly
implemented scoping as it was defined in what was the de facto
standard (the ARM) when it appeared.

So they jumped the gun, and broke needlessly broke existing code
before the standard was fixed.

(And seriously, who cares? Who writes such junk anyway?)
